Who Would You Be, If You Knew You Would Fail, and Fail Again? You’d Be Christo.

32 failures and 22 successes. Would you give this track record an award. Probably not. So maybe it’s time to shift our perceptions. Jeanne Claude and Christo have the very same track record. And last night, we celebrated this lifetime of achievement (so far!) at Kingsbury Hall. Environmental artist Christo visited the University of Utah in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where he spoke about his current projects and life’s work (with partner of 40 years, Jeanne-Claude) in a lecture titled “Christo and Jeanne-Claude, two works in progress: Over the River, Project for the Arkansas River, Colorado and The Mastaba, Project for the United Arab Emirates.”

The Salt Lake Art Center has taken an exciting new direction (yay for Utah Arts!). In the last few years I’ve seen the programs, shows, and events “elevated” to a new standard. It’s not always easy to get away from my Park City gallery and head down to SLC, but I try to when there’s an art event that I think will not only benefit me, but also my artists and collectors. One such event was last week, an Art Talk put together by Utah Lawyers for the Arts.

We have never purchased any “real” artwork but, as Maren points out, finding an up and coming artist might be a way to get good value for a great piece. As a new baby enters your life maybe there is a piece of art that will be able to capture the feeling of this time. Artwork should awaken an emotion, capture a moment, inspire a future. “Two Waters” Run Deep at Gallery MAR

This weekend, Shawna Moore and Matt Flint joined us in the gallery for the reception of their exhibition “Two Waters.” With all of the excitement that this show has garnered from collectors and new clients, many pieces have been pre-sold; the response to the new works was uplifting to all involved.
Exciting News for the NAC and Penelope Moore at Red, White, and Snow

Penelope Moore, represented by Gallery MAR in Park City, UT, created a special painting for Red, White & Snow, an annual event to benefit the National Ability Center that took place March 10-12th 2011. Penelope was the featured artist during the event. Her painting Ruby Romance, oil on canvas, 24×18″ depicting a bottle of 2006 Staglin Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon with a bouquet of roses was the official artwork of the event and was used for the poster, website and gala schedule.

In the Park City gallery, I continually hear the phrase: “We have no more room for art!” And what a lovely problem to have! I myself have a small home (as is the case with most miner’s homes built in the late 1800s) here in Park City and there never seems to be enough room for our artwork collection. Nonetheless, it keeps growing. This weekend, my husband and I were traveling through California and happened upon some sculptures by Karen Shapiro that we couldn’t live without. It’s a bug. I know I have a(n art collecting) problem.
