A Very Revealing Backside

A Very Revealing Backside

July 16th, 2013

Just inside the pages of this month’s ARTnews magazine is a brilliant advertisement for Bonhams Auctioneers and Appraisers. I’ve inserted the images, below, which help to highlight the strength of the auction house’s research into each auction item’s provenance. “At Bonhams, we never judge a book, or a painting, by one side alone.”

White Tail Buck Commission by Jamie Burnes

White Tail Buck Commission by Jamie Burnes

July 10th, 2013

“White Tail Buck” is a unique take on a Burnes sculpture, incorporating rock work instead of Burnes’ typical rot-resistant woods. Cor-Ten steel is heated, pounded, and annealed to just the perfect shape to hold the individual rocks. This beautiful artwork is also great than life-sized, and will be a beautiful addition to the collector’s grounds.

Celebrate National Pollinators Week with Carol Alleman Bronze

Celebrate National Pollinators Week with Carol Alleman Bronze

June 4th, 2013

Six years ago the U.S. Senate’s unanimous approval and designation of a week in June as “National Pollinator Week” marked a necessary step toward addressing the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations. Pollinator Week has now grown to be an international celebration of the valuable ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles. The growing concern for pollinators is a sign of progress, but it is vital that we continue to maximize our collective effort. The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture signs the proclamation every year.

Announcing New Artist Nathaniel Mather

Announcing New Artist Nathaniel Mather

May 31st, 2013

A new addition to our walls in the vibrant and optimistic work of Tennessee-based artist Nathaniel Mather. The paintings of Nathaniel Mather, in their shallow spaces, childlike renderings of animals, flowers, and rough-edged patches of color evoke early 19Th century primitive art, and yet a rich symbolic allusiveness and playfulness of spirit give his work […]

MutualArt.com is one of my favorite spots for all-things art. Their email newsletters are worthy of singing up for, and you can also sign up to receive auction updates and alerts. I recently spotted this Must-See list of art documentaries and thought they were spot-on.Their number one pick, Wasteland, was screened here in Park City at the Sundance Film Festival, as were several others that I have been fortunate to see.
