October 24th, 2025

Each October, Park City’s Main Street transforms into a parade of wagging tails, clever costumes, and unbridled joy for one of the town’s most beloved traditions: Howl-o-ween. As the autumn light softens, the aspen leaves turn gold, and the mountain air turns crisp, locals and visitors alike gather – on two legs and on four – to celebrate the creativity and companionship that make our community so special.

Here at Gallery MAR, we have the perfect front-row seat to the festivities. From our bright windows, we watch the procession of pups dressed as superheroes, dinosaurs, and ski instructors pass by, each greeted with laughter and applause. But inside the gallery, the celebration of our canine companions continues, this time, through the language of art.

This year, we’re especially delighted to highlight dog-inspired artwork from several of our artists who capture the spirit, loyalty, and whimsy of man’s best friend.

Left to Right: Sara Edgar, “Best Dog,” mixed media, 12″ x 12 | Sara Edgar, “Pool Party,” mixed media, 36″ x 36″ | Sara Edgar, “Postcard #5 (Somewhere Warm),” acrylic, 30″ x 30″

Local artist Sara Edgar brings her charming, whimsical style to beloved dogs, especially delightfully adorable weiner dogs, often placing them in scenes that balance reflection with lighthearted charm. As Edgar explains, “There are serious things in relationships, but I try to balance that out. Like the pool paintings with the dog; pools are a good memory. Dogs are just funny. You don’t need to understand the deeper meaning to enjoy a wiener dog in a party hat.” Her work reminds us that art can be both thoughtful and joyful, often revealing meaning through humor and warmth. Her works are tributes not only to the animals themselves, but to the bond between humans and their furry friends, a theme that resonates deeply during Howl-o-ween.

Fred Calleri, “Holiday Companion,” oil, 48″ x 36″

Also on view is “Holiday Companion” by Fred Calleri, a tender, nostalgic scene that captures a timeless connection between a woman and her faithful dog on a holiday adventure. Calleri’s pastel palette, dynamic composition, and subtle storytelling remind us that, beyond the costumes and festivities, our pets are true partners in life’s adventures—whether on the trail, by the hearth, or right here on Main Street.

So as you stroll through the joyful chaos of Howl-o-ween this year, we invite you to step inside Gallery MAR for a moment of artful calm (and maybe a tail wag or two). You’ll find paintings that celebrate the same thing this special day does: love, loyalty, and a touch of playful imagination.

Happy Howl-o-ween from all of us at Gallery MAR…and from the beautifully painted canines who grace our walls!
