Havoc Hendricks and Samantha Da Silva at the exhibition opening for their Gallery MAR exhibition, “Eternal Meditations“
On January 16th, Gallery MAR opened its doors to “Eternal Meditations,” a quietly profound exhibition uniting two deeply introspective voices: our local Gallery MAR artists Havoc Hendricks and Samantha Da Silva. Across divergent practices, each artist invites us into a thoughtful terrain where stillness – whether found in micro-detail or spirit-infused materiality – becomes a lens for reflection and presence.

Havoc Hendricks, “Night Descending,” mixed media, 40″ x 96″
At first glance, local artist Havoc Hendricks’ work might seem paradoxical: detailed yet minimalist, powerful yet understated. His pieces arise from a patient, almost meditative engagement with material and process, born from an early obsession with the hidden forms in ordinary textures and landscapes. “It’s been one of the most amazing and shocking discoveries of my lifetime, that I was capable of developing this strong sense of patience,” Hendricks told us, reflecting on how his practice evolved from impulsive spray paint beginnings into finely tuned, meticulously crafted abstractions.

Havoc Hendricks, “Night Wave,” mixed media, 36″ x 72″
In works that distill nature through abstracted mountain forms and rhythmic wave patterns, Hendricks’ art is an invitation to slow down and discover complexity in places others might pass by. This attention to nuance, where every line and color shift feels intentional, echoes the show’s overarching theme: art as a quiet meditation on form, feeling, and presence.

Samantha Da Silva, “River of Light,” mixed media, 36″ x 60″
Complementing this contemplative structure is the luminous work of local artist Samantha Da Silva, whose practice emerges from a lifelong communion with the landscape and spirit. Da Silva described her art as a convergence of natural forces and the intangible, rooted in materials like volcanic soil, salt, and mineral pigments yet resonant with something beyond the surface. Her pieces embody a sense of grounding that feels almost ritualistic: painting not just as a means of creating, but as a way of anchoring self to place.

Da Silva speaks often about painting as a form of listening – to the land, to intuition, and to the unseen rhythms that shape her inner world. Her process is deeply tactile and intuitive, guided less by premeditation than by response. “I let the materials lead and allow myself to be present with what wants to come through,” she has shared, describing how mineral pigments, soil, and salt become collaborators rather than tools. Each work unfolds slowly, accumulating layers that feel both ancient and immediate, as if the surface is holding memory rather than image. The resulting compositions carry a quiet spiritual weight, inviting viewers into a space where nature, emotion, and time converge.

Both artists, in their own distinct language, explore the quiet power of internal worlds made visible. Hendricks’ compositions pull you into a meticulous inner field of perception, while Da Silva’s textured surfaces and earth-infused palettes resonate like echoes of lived experience and rootedness.
“Eternal Meditations” gives us all an invitation to pause, reflect, and find meaning in stillness. Join us in the gallery or online at Havoc Hedndricks‘ and Samantha Da Silva’s artist pages to experience these new and thoughtful visions: where every mark, surface, and gesture encourages a moment of presence and, perhaps, a shift in the way we see.
