It all started with an afternoon phone call: “I’m thinking of opening an art gallery in Carmel; talk me out of it.” When Thomas Cushman called me to ask my advice and opinion about a gallery in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California it was like a dream calling me back to 2010. Back then, I had toured spaces and was perusing leases, focusing in on my dream of having two galleries in two beautiful locations. While in negotiations, my current Park City space became avilable, and I had to walk away from the Carmel dream.

Here at Gallery MAR, we rarely have the opportunity to exhibit photography but instead focus on artists whose work is inspired by or utilizes this cinematic media. Kollabs, Maura Allen, and James Penfield all fit this scenario, and we have brought them all together for an exhibition we are entitling “It’ll Last Longer.”

For the third year, Gallery MAR has the honor of giving out three $500 scholarships to students attending art school after high school graduation. We know that the are a small drop in the bucket when it comes to the rising costs of college tuition, but we feel excited about helping three students each year to assist (even a little bit!) with their new adventures in art.
