“Velocity” by Michael Kessler is an excellent reminder on why scale matters.

At 60″ × 48″, this is a painting that meets you from across the room. Watercolor impressions beneath collaged paper, acrylic brought back in to connect it all, the whole surface humming with a kind of controlled energy.

We were fortunate to witness the creation of this very special piece, right outside Kessler’s studio in Santa Fe. Using inks and watercolor, along with acrylic paint, subtly layered in each piece at a striking (new!) diagonal series. We can’t wait to see what else comes from this new group of work, and we will have an entire fresh collection come August, when we premier the “All Resin” show for Kessler.

If you watched our Art Tour of Michael Kessler’s studio, and saw him work through his demonstrations outdoors, seeing this piece will feel like a continuation of that conversation. And if you haven’t experienced his work in person yet, this is the one to come in for.
