Gallery MAR and Park City Gardens will host an array of local painters for the Plein Air Paint Out. The public is invited to the free event to explore the gardens, meet the artists and purchase original art. This is a free live art event, presented in a partnership with the Park City Gardens and Gallery MAR.

Between 20 to 30 artists will arrive at the gardens, 4459 N. S.R. 224, at p.m. to set up their easels and canvases throughout the area.

“We have almost 10 acres of property available to them, and they can go wherever they want,” Kohler said. “In the past, I’ve seen artists set up in the section of the nursery where we store bagged soil and compost, and I’ve seen artists set up in our trees by the meadow area.”

Garden patrons and paint-out attendees will be allowed to walk around the grounds to seek out these artists, watch them create works of art and ask them questions about their creative processes, she said.

“It’s like an artist search,” Kohler said. “Some artists will paint scenes of our willow trees or some of the buildings, while others will paint the scenery of our more obscure areas.”

Although some artists have already been confirmed, Gallery MAR owner Maren Mullin is currently recruiting artists for the event. “There is something valuable about doing this,” she said. “It deepens the connection between the person who makes a beautiful work of art and the person who will live with it for the rest of their life.”

Those interested in participating can email their names and contact information to info@gallerymar.com by Wednesday, June 15th, Mullin said.

“We are looking for artists of different styles, ages, and ability levels,” she said. “They will be allowed to bring as many canvases or other painting surfaces as they want, and they can paint as many pieces as they want. This year we have a Kids Category, with its own prizes too”

At 5:30 p.m. all participating artists will move their completed artwork into the nursery’s Garden Boutique for a contest and “Wet Paint” sale, Mullin said.

“We’ll have a juror who will award first place, second place and honorable mention,” she said. “Then all the artwork will be for sale.”

All the money from the sales will go back to the artists, Mullin said.

“Gallery MAR and Park City Gardens are not taking any share of the sales, so people can negotiate directly with the artists,” she said.

Send your name, email, and phone number to info@gallerymar.com to sign up. The deadline for participating artists to sign up is June 15th, 2025.

Thank you for joining us for this event. Please plan to arrive no later than 2:30 pm on Saturday to set-up. There is limited parking at the nursery, so please carpool or park nearby and walk in. You can also park in the St. Mary’s church lot just up the street.

You may set up your easel anywhere that does not impede the ability of nursery guests to access and see the plants. We reserve the right to move you.

We will have light bites, drinks, and live music. Please share the event details on social, and bring your green-thumbed friends.

Plan to begin painting at 3 pm. You may work on as many pieces as you wish. At 5:00 pm, bring your finished painting(s) to the nursery boutique. Our judges will award $250 for first place, $150 for second, and one $100 honorable mention. We will also have a Kids Category, for all painters 12 and under, with their own prizes.

Please sell your paintings! If you connect with a buyer, arrange to have them Venmo you, pay cash, check, whatever is easiest for you. We want this event to be a success for you and for you to connect with other artists and patrons.

All sales are direct to the artist – you set your price, no commission is due to the gallery or the nursery.

–  Will the artist take the work home after the plein air event that night if it is not sold?

Yes, you will take them home if you don’t connect with a buyer.
