June 11th kicked off the 4th annual Plein Air at Park City Nursery hosted by Sophie Kohler & Maren Mullin. Participants from all ages enjoyed the garden’s ambiance and beauty while competing and creating masterpieces in the 3 hours allowed.
En Plein Air is a French expression meaning “In the open air,” referring to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. It thus expresses a new spirit of spontaneity and truth to personal impulse within art.
Our artist participants captured the Park City nursery exquisitely with various mediums from oils, watercolors, soft pastels, crayons, and even some painted sticks entered the completion. Each piece unique and baring the soul of the artist from which their hands created.
Judging each artwork based off their artistic ability, ingenuity, composition, and color complements was the real challenge of the afternoon. Each artist’s tenacious ability to perform and create was presented and displayed at the end of the day and three lucky winners walked away with a 1st, 2nd, and honorable mention gifts — awarded in part by Gallery MAR and Oasis Massage.
First place went to Morgan McCue for her detail oriented water color, not only did she capture the Park City Nursery perfectly but even incorporated a fellow artist and contestant in her piece. Figure drawing is no easy feat and this added touch to her artwork went above and beyond.
Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the music, dancing, art, and flower gardens- – we look forward to seeing you next summer!
