Marilyn Borglum was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1962 and lives and works in the Kansas City area. She has worked professionally for over three decades. As a young girl influenced by her grandmother’s art history books of DaVinci’s drawings, and throughout her career, Marilyn has used the horse as the central form to express energy with line. While the horse has played the most central and consequential role in her work, some of her most personal work applies her command of expression and gesture to her occupation with portraiture and figurative work.
She is particularly interested in personality, our perception of reality, and the human trait of projection. Her figurative work examines the susceptibility of the human mind to influences, and the cultural effects of those liabilities.
Marilyn holds a BFA and MFA in painting from Colorado State University (1984,1993). She taught Visual Form, Drawing, and Printmaking, to both art and non-art majors while she was a graduate student.
Her work is shown at several art galleries in the US, and at international contemporary art fairs, and is included in many prestigious private collections.
She is from a family of celebrated artists and is the great-great niece of sculptors Gutzon and Solon Borglum-the former most famously commissioned for the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
