While we are all spending more time on Zoom this year, we noticed just how inspiring some of the backgrounds are — especially when filled with fine art.

What do you have as a Zoom backdrop? Below, enjoy a few of our recent favorites, and their stories.

Hadley Powell, Powell Fine Art Advisory

We have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Powell on artwork selections for her clients, and wanted to share her own Zoom background, a work on paper by Jeffrey Gibson. As an art advisor, Powell has a multitude of options to place behind her, and we love that she has chosen such an optimistic view for her Zoom meetings. Yes indeed: We HAVE come so far!

A little more about Ms. Powell’s Fine Art Advisory: We provide art consulting and advisory services for collectors of modern and contemporary art across all media, including paintings, drawings, original prints, photography and sculpture. Whether you are an experienced collector or new to the field, interested in building a comprehensive art collection or purchasing a single work of art, we can guide you with objective professional advice.

Mario Ferreira, Barcley Butera

Mario Ferreira’s backdrop is a double shot of artist inspiration: wallpaper chosen by his husband, designer Anthony DiCola, as well as a painting found long ago of a group of revelers having a fabulous time at a party. The “desk” at which Ferreira sits is actually the couple’s dining table, which is typical used year-round for hosting dinners and buffets for their many friends. These two are marvelous hosts, and it looks like Ferreira continues to entertain in this location, albeit with fewer guests!

Xavier Plasencia

Xavier is a friend of Thomas Cushman’s and local artist and bartender in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. This last year when Gallery MAR Carmel was closed to the public due to Covid-19, Cushman put together a series of Zoom Artist Parties for our collectors and gallery friends, and invited Xavier to select a cocktail that coordinated with each featured artist. He would mix up a perfect concoction which accompanied the artwork, and we couldn’t help but notice his own lovely artwork as his Zoom backdrop. We love the bright colors of his artwork, and of course the adorable dog.
