Kirk Tatom, “In for the Night,” Oil on Board

I’m always looking for new and interesting resource from which to gleam art collecting advice. And you never know when you’ll discover the next great artist. So I read through several art blogs and magazines each week in the pursuit of inspiration.

Below, you’ll find a few of my favorite blog resources for visual art new and information…

Art Info: http://www.artinfo.com/

Jonathon Jones on Art: http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/jonathanjonesblog. Highly opinionated, dry British humor.

The Art Newspaper: http://www.theartnewspaper.com/ Well organized and on trend.

Arts Journal Daily News: http://www.artsjournal.com/ No nonsense articles, categorized by each artistic discipline.

The Huffington Post Art News: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arts/ Your source for more dishy arts news.

You Are the River: http://www.youaretheriver.com/ A clean, modernist design blog; reading this feels like meditating.

What are some of your favorite art blogs or other sources of inspiration? I’d love to hear from you!

Artist Updates Galore

Kirk Tatom, “Sunrise, Avon,” 16″ x 20″, 2009

Kirk Tatom:

Currently living in the UK (but feeling rather homesick!), Tatom recently went over to the North coast of France for the Easter holiday. He drove all over Brittany and Normandy in the cool, damp weather. “[I]could have used more warmth and sunshine… but the gray cloudy light was good for photos of the wonderful farms.” We look forward to seeing more of Tatom’s new work, from this trip, in the gallery soon.

Shawna Moore, Encaustic artist

Shawna Moore:

Moore writes to us that “this year is just slipping through my fingers!” The artist and her family spent the winter in southern Baja, Mexico camping on the beach, home schooling, doodling, tanning, windsurfing, and eating tacos. The current economic situation has turned out to be a fantastic time for her to recharge and energize her art.  Exciting happenings for Moore are her inclusion in the Montana Triennial Exhibition www.missoulaartmuseum.org and a new art grant in Montana: “The Innovative Artist’s Award.” She will also show/teach in Jackson, Wyoming the weekend of July 24-25, and will open a show in Santa Fe in late August. If that schedule wasn’t busy enough, Moore plans on teaching several workshops and another show in the fall.

Good luck to both of these artists with their busy schedules and upcoming events!

Kirk Tatom– Artist Abroad

Monday, January 5th, 2009

We just heard news that celebrated Gallery MAR artist Kirk Tatom has moved to England for a spell. This is a very exciting turn of events and we can’t wait to see what work he will produce, inspired by the new scenery and landscape of the UK.

Kirk writes, “I moved from Santa Fe and Cambria to the West Coast of England, back at the end of September. I set up studio as soon as I could and it took a month to settle on a flat in Portishead. I knew the countryside would be a never ending source of new imagery, and each day holds an idea of something new I want to paint.

As the seasons have changed, this has held true. Now, with the leaves on the trees and bushes fallen, the grass is still green, which is very unlike California. It snowed a half inch a couple of days ago… and the green peeking out made for some unique visions.

I am living in a four story building on the third floor, overlooking a lock at the head of a large marina. I can see Cardiff, Wales from here (across the channel) and I’m told there is some great mountain biking over there.”

How fantastic for Kirk Tatom and his artistic pursuits! We look forward to seeing the new work that this area, and new experinces, will produce.
