In creating my works of art, I find using the visual representational language of drawing and painting of the masters an exhilarating manner in which to express my artistic inspiration, ideas and feelings. I am continually studying the works and writings of contemporary and historical artists who inspire me. I rigorously study from life to increase my skills, methods and knowledge to more effectively use the language of traditional painting and drawing. In the type of work I like to create, I find that the depth, texture, ease of manipulation and luminosity of oil paint resonates well with me. Although, critically important, my work is not as much about the materials or the process, it is about how my work communicates on an emotional level to my audience. My approach to representational painting requires rigorous training, experience and inspiration. My goal is to develop my work in such a way that it does not require the viewer to have this knowledge. Rather, they can appreciate the visual and emotional impact of the work itself.”
Warren Neary’s work primarily focuses on realistic impressions of the figure, landscapes and architecture. “I’m moved by the grace and beauty of the figure and learning to capture the emotion filled moments in relationships we share with each other. I enjoy learning and being a student and son of a loving Father in Heaven and master creator.” “It is exhilarating to explore scenes of subtle or dramatic light, color and design, especially the light in the morning, evening and candle lit situations. I take the opportunity to draw and paint from life often. Nature teaches wonderfully, and I find the experience enlightening and refreshing.” In 2008 he was admitted to the Oil Painters of America Associate Member (Juried).
After graduating from high school as the Art Sterling Scholar, he attended Utah State where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree on a two-year art scholarship. Although he was accepted into the Master of Fine Arts program, duty called and Warren accepted a commission as an officer in the United States Air Force. Warren served for 8 years in the service of his country as an officer, and deployed in support of Operation Southern Watch to Eskan Village, Saudi Arabia, and Operation Enduring Freedom to Joint Task Force Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Neary recently graduated with his MFA degree at Academy Art of University.
