ARTIST STATEMENT
I often go to the canvas with the end result in mind, only to discover that the relationship between the medium and brush results in more interesting and complex narratives and compositions than my subjective mind originally conceived. This process of “getting out of the way” holds deep meaning for me as I work at staying present with the process and noticing the connections between my internal state, my environment, and the manifestation of this on the canvas. Systems Theory, a model found in physics, is my primary source of inspiration, which demonstrates the interconnectedness of all things. I am particularly interested in natural systems and the impact humans have on them. Many of my works explore the effects of environmental changes on the flight patterns and migration of birds and other winged creatures. Scientists recently discovered that bird-calls in Spring trigger certain plant species to begin the blooming process as much as light and temperature, further demonstrating the interconnectedness of seemingly unrelated elements in natural systems.
BIO
Lisa Lamoreaux is a Seattle based painter known for her rich colors and highly textured and layered surface. Her process includes noticing the pattern and imagery that appears as she paints, which she then brings to the foreground, nudging a perceptual shift in the viewer to look further into the surface. Images, icons, and symbols are used as metaphor revealing a deeper meaning and dialogue with the viewer.
Her work can be found in many private and corporate collections including Antioch University, Seattle, WA, Mayo Clinic Hospital, Phoenix, AZ, St Mary’s Medical, Reno, NV, and Ms. Jennifer Nettles of the band Sugarland. She is represented by Gallery MAR in Park City, UT, White Bird Gallery in Cannon Beach, OR, The Directors Gallery on Bainbridge Island, WA., The Art Study, Seattle, WA
