Brandon Cook was born August 9, 1972 in Provo, UT. He received his BFA from
the University of Utah in 1996.
Statement:
I prefer process over accuracy. I prefer to let the painting evolve through risk, through effort, through play, through frustration, through sensation, through recollections and a reconciling of opposites. I prefer my painting to be a record of the internal instead of the external, not to imitate a fixed surface reality, but render a spirit and movement. I prefer to always seek creative knowledge that is transformative and universal through the process of art making.

Cook has developed a personal style where like the masters of the past, he delights in the process of painting - a process that takes advantage of chance and glimpsed possibilities, letting the painting evolve through risk, play, recollections, sensations and reconciling opposites where creative vision of mind and spirit is fused. “The many paint layers create luminosity and a history where the individual paintings and the body of work as a whole are a record of my spiritual journey in God” says Cook. “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that the visible has its origin in the invisible- that scripture passage really resonates with me and causes me to dig. Rather than trying to imitate a fixed surface reality, I want to render spirit and movement.” Cook’s paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows across the country, and hang in both private and corporate collections. He has been featured in many local and national publications. Brandon and his wife Petra make their home in Utah, with their three children Ethan, Ayden and Isabelle.
